Rules of Extra Time:If the game is tied at after 90 minutes of play, then a 15-minute period is added. It is not a sudden death or golden goal situation either — the entire first 15 minutes must be played. If they are still tied after the first 15-minute period, then they play another 15 minutes. If they are still tied after that, an even number of penalty kicks are given until the tie is broken.
The golden goal (aka, sudden death) is a method used in association football to decide the winner of games in elimination matches which end in a draw after the end of regulation time. Golden goal rules allow the team that scores the first goal during extra time to be declared the winner. The game finishes when a golden goal is scored.
The golden goal is no longer used in FIFA authorized games, other than the FIFA Beach World Cup. The golden goal is used by NCAA soccer games and by FIH sanctioned field hockey matches. A related concept is used in National Rugby League games. The golden goal rule is also used in all National Hockey League (NHL) overtime games (followed by a shootout), however the term 'golden goal' is not used as the term is typically reserved for football(soccer) use.
There is NO Golden Goal rule in this world cup tournament. This means that the 1st team that scores DOES NOT mean that they are the outright winner. Both teams must play the entire allotted time. If BOTH teams are still tied after the two 15 minute periods, penalty kicks are used to determine the outcome of the game.
