Painter Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican painter, and a communist born in Coyoacán. She was married to Mexican muralist and communist Diego Rivera. She mostly made self-portraits, she also painted "pain and passion" using intense, vibrant colors. Her style "close to folk art" was influenced among others by indigenous cultures of Mexico, European Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism.

When Frida Kahlo had her first solo exhibition in Mexico (the only one held in her native country during her lifetime), a local critic wrote: 'It is impossible to separate the life and work of this extraordinary person. Her paintings are her biography.'
