Rube Goldberg Complicated inventions that were available at the beginning

Reuben Lucius Goldberg, known as Rube Goldberg machines, was a Jewish American cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. He is best known for a series of popular cartoons he created depicting complex devices that perform simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways. Goldberg received many honors in his lifetime including a Pulitzer Prize for his political cartooning in 1948 and the Banshees' Silver Lady Award 1959.

Now on 4th of July 2010 Google celebrates the Independence Day with a Rube Goldberg cartoon of the Google logo. Rube Goldberg's cartoons are incredible displays of ingenuity, detailed logic, physics and satire. He poked fun at the many complicated inventions that were available at the beginning of the century, and at the round-about methods people divised for solving their problems.
