In 1977 Polanski was arrested for the s3x@al a22ault of a 13 year old girl, after a photo shoot in Los Angeles, Her name is Samantha Geimer, now 39, told the L.A. Superior Court Judge David Wesley;
"Polanski's hands begins with her posing twice for t0pl3ss photos that he said were for French Vogue". Samantha then told prosecutors how Polanski directed her to, "Take off your underwear, and enter the Jacuzzi", then he photographed her nak3d. Soon, the Polanski, who was then 43, joined her in the hot tub. He also wasn't wearing any clothes and, according to her testimony, wrapped his hands around her waist. he later pleaded guilty to unlawful s3x@al int3rc0@rse with a minor.
To avoid sentencing, Polanski fled to his home in London, but quickly moved on to France the following day, and has had a U.S. arrest warrant outstanding since then, and an international arrest warrant since 2005. Polanski avoided visits to countries that were likely to extradite him to the United States. In September 2009 Polanski was arrested by Swiss police, at the request of U.S. authorities, when he traveled to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. The United States formally requested his extradition on 23 October 2009. On July 12, 2010, the Swiss authorities announced that they would not extradite Polanski to the USA after they judged the American request for extradition was faulty. The Justice minister Eveline Widmer-Stumpt freed him from house arrest and told a press conference, "He is a free man" .
Polanski, 69, will not discuss the case and his victim, Samantha Geimer has recently said that the sex assault should not color his chances with Academy Award voters.
