2010 Fifa World Cup Final Spain Vs Netherland Predictions Review

According to Wiki, Paul the Octopus (hatched January 2008) is a common octopus living in a tank at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany, who is used as an animal oracle to predict the results of football matches, usually international matches in which Germany is playing. He came to worldwide attention with his accurate predictions in the 2010 World Cup.

During a divination, Paul is presented with two boxes containing food, each marked with the flag of a national football team in an upcoming match. He chose the box with the flag of the winning team in several of Germany's six Euro 2008 matches, and in all seven of their matches in the 2010 World Cup—with Germany's third place playoff win over Uruguay on 10 July, his success rate rose to 85 percent, with 11 out of 13 matches correctly predicted. He has predicted a win for Spain against the Netherlands in the World Cup final on 11 July by eating the mussel in the box with the Spanish flag on it.

Germany began to use Paul as an animal oracle to predict the results of football games in international matches in which they were playing. Here’s how it works : In the build up to German internationals, Paul is presented with two clear plastic boxes, each containing food: a mussel or an oyster.

Paul the Octopus as he is now known, has become a cult hero around the world, after ‘correctly’ predicting World Cup results throughout the tournament. It appears that he was right yesterday too, since he correctly predicted that his home country Germany would defeat Uruguay and claim third place.

As for who will win - we think Spain but we would also like to see the Dutch win - but we think it will be too close to call and we wouldn't be surprised if there was very few goals and this game went into extra-time.

The Octopus has now gone on to tip Spain to lift the trophy later today, ahead of Holland – you can check out the prediction video here.

  1. Maybe he just likes the colour yellow - he seems to always go for the box with that colour in the flag. Has he ever went for a box with no yellow in the flag?
